• Question?

From The Phantom Lord@DIGDIST/BATTLEST/FREEWAY to All on Sat Jul 26 17:12:00 2014
Hello all I have a question about nets like Dovenet. I want to create my own network on my BBS Outer Limits and was wondering if someone could point me to some useful information? I some will say it's a dumb quest but whatever! Just wanting to know how to get started and create my own message network like DoveNet. The network will be small like 5 message nets and build from there. Thanks all and I'm excited to hear from you. Shhot me an email if you like macboy129@gmail.com

Guess it depends on which protocol yo want to use... FTN or QWK.

I think I would use QWK as my protocol for my network. Any information on how to create your own network using that protocol? Thanks!

I moved your reply to the bottom of the post where it belongs...

I think I would use QWK as my protocol for my network. Any information
on how to create your own network using that protocol? Thanks!

OK... it's fairly easy. Being you're the HUB, you have to generate your own message GROUP. Under that group, you make your message areas. After you've manually entered the areas go to the first area, go through all the options. Make sure Under Network Options you toggle QWK Networked to YES. Go back the the group config screen and click Clone Options. Now your areas are all set. Next you want to EXPORT a SUBS.TXT. This you will include in your packets going to your downlinks. On their end they must set your system up as a HUB. That's done in the main cfg screen under Networks. Then they must also make a GROUP for your network and use the SUBS.TXT to import the echo areas.

Next you'll have to modify the ../exec/newuser.js file and toggle the qnet=true and ask_qnet=true.

Then your downlinks must setup a specific account on your system using their system NAME. Once they do that then they have to setup on their end the frequency to call you.

I don't think I forgot anything but if I did, please, someone else chime in.

    Enjoy

You're welcome but a few hints. Always reply at the bottom of the previous message. This will allow others to at least see what the topic was we were talking about. Secondly, edit my signature out of the reply. Not that it matters much anymore with regard to bandwidth and costs, just the fact you're removing stuff not needed in the reply.

    Enjoy!!
