in the grand scheme of things, marvel has been a poorly ran company that
was passed around for decades.
ironman was a fluke. before then nobody could make a good superhero movie. they needed to get the right formula.
I'm pretty sure the widespread ability/availability of special effects
were a huge factor on that... regarding superhero movies. The Tobey
Maguire Spider-Man was really the first superhero movie that wasn't
overall garbage.
Of course, the licensing models etc were mostly outside Marvel's
creative control for those earlier movies.
