i've just pulled the latest artware svn repos and compiled them on ubuntu 14.04
by following the instructions given in a previous message... now i'm trying to figure out how to have timed (at least) read the husky fidoconfig... i don't find a keyword like HUSKYCFG which would do the same as FASTECHOCFG, FMAILCFG, GECHOCFG, SQUISHCFG, WTRGATECFG or XMAILCFG...

I just tried and it wouldn't read the squish.cfg as it was. Looks like I can do
a little editing to that file and make it work though..

Actually it does work. I get everything except the area descriptions. I'll have
to see if I can change the order of things and get that as well.

    Good suggestion.. :)

probably... first i've heard of it...

personally speaking, though, i'd rather have one central config to maintain that everything else reads from... on my main system (OS/2) i run timed and have it read everything from my fastecho config... on one of my winwhatever points, timed reads from the fmail config... i forget what i had to do for timed on another of my points that is running dbridge... i think that one is a manual thing or i have something set up for like an areas.bbs file but it is little used... of course some things have to be in a special config for the reader (eg: address, user name, etc) but it would be nice to see the addresses also taken from the external configs...

i had noted something in a changelog about hpt and thought that the husky stuff
would be supported directly but, as previously noted, i haven't found anything in the available documentation... i don't think there's anything in the "unused" directory that would pertain to the husky stuff, either... when i look
at config.c, i don't see anything for any other configurations other than squish... at the minimum i need JAM support for all areas... i don't read C/C++
as well as i used to and i don't write C/C++ at all other than very simple fixes that i may discover needing to be done...

I stopped using timEd regularly a few years ago, but I used to just auto-run fconf2squish whenever I got new mail, and used the SquishCfg keyword in timed.cfg.

Someone else can add HuskyCfg support to timEd if they want.

i had noted something in a changelog about hpt and thought that the

There is nothing in the timEd changelog about HPT. timEd does not know what HPT
    is.

Keep in mind most of the work on timEd stopped after it was ported to UNIX in 2003. A couple of minor features were added but the bulk of the code dates back
to late 1995 when the original author Gerard van Essen stopped working on it. Which predates Husky by several years.

Currently JAM support is buggy and most likely completely broken, and it's disabled by default in XMSGAPI for that reason. It might work if you use SMAPI instead of XMSGAPI, but you might encounter other problems that I've long since
    forgotten about.

that's why i said "a changelog"... it may have been in the message api as it had something to do with some date field...

oh... i wasn't really aware of that... i've just been using my original pre-y2k
patched one... recently i've moved a lot of my personal stuff to my linux workstation so i wanted to maybe also try timed... i have golded and it is ok but timed has always been my favorite...

A couple of minor features were added but the bulk of the code dates

shouldn't be too much problem ;)

oh no... if JAM doesn't work, that's a show stopper... the husky stuff is using
smapi and there is jam and squish in the output libsmapi.so file... i'm not sure what other formats are being used, though... i just have JAM set up for everything and since i'm using BSO, even my netmail area is JAM instead of MSG... times like this i kinda wish i had learned C so that i could maybe fix things like this :(

Note: The latest version of this document is available via SVN. See
the end of the document for more information.

    Status
    ------

The software timEd, NetMgr and WIMM have all been ported to UNIX. In
years gone by these programs were distributed as shareware by Gerard
van Essen under the name 'Artware', however in late 2000 they were
released as open source under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL) and
    uploaded to http://www.nicestories.com/fidonet/ (last accessed
    2013-09-20).

Most of the work porting timEd to UNIX was done by Oliver Grimm.
Currently the Windows port of timEd is only stable, and semi-usable,
when compiled using Cygwin. To date there has been no attempt to port
it back to OS/2 or DOS. Contributions are welcome though! The latest
version is stable under Linux, FreeBSD, BeOS and Mac OS X.

WIMM should compile under Windows, UNIX, OS/2, BeOS & 32-bit DOS.
There has been a report of instability under 32-bit DOS, but this
cannot be replicated by me. It has been stable under FreeBSD during
    testing.

NetMgr is the most recent port, thanks to Bo Simonsen. Currently it
only compiles under UNIX (Linux/FreeBSD) and BeOS. It will probably
also compile under Cygwin. It won't compile out of the box for OS/2,
Windows or 32-bit DOS using Watcom, but shouldn't need too much work
to make this possible. It has been stable under FreeBSD and BeOS
during testing, but has not been exhaustively tested.

All three require the latest version of XMSGAPI if you wish to compile
from source. XMSGAPI is a port of the Squish MSGAPI written by Scott
Dudley and released under the GNU Lesser Public Licence.

    Downloading
    -----------

An anonymous SVN server has been set up for timEd, WIMM, NetMgr and
XMSGAPI. If you have a command-line SVN client installed you can
retrieve the latest version of the timEd source code using the
    following command:

    svn co svn://svn.ozzmosis.com/timed

For WIMM, NetMgr and XMSGAPI, replace 'timed' with 'wimm', 'netmgr' or 'xmsgapi':

    svn co svn://svn.ozzmosis.com/wimm
    svn co svn://svn.ozzmosis.com/netmgr
    svn co svn://svn.ozzmosis.com/xmsgapi

    Contributing
    ------------

You can make changes to the source code or documentation of any of
these programs and have it incorporated into the main SVN repository.

If you'd like write access to the SVN at svn.ozzmosis.com please
send netmail to Andrew Clarke at FidoNet node 3:633/267 or e-mail mail@ozzmosis.com with the username and password you wish to use.

    Updates
    -------

The latest version of this document is posted on the 1st and 15th of
every month in the FidoNet ARTWARE echo. It is also available via
SVN as 'artware.txt', using the command:

    svn co svn://svn.ozzmosis.com/fidonet/

    Hi Gary,

    Sorry, no binaries.

I haven't built NetMgr or WIMM on Linux in several years. It turns out there were some small problems with the code. I've since committed the fixes to the SVN, and they all build now, at least in Ubuntu 14.04.

You should run "sudo apt-get build-essential subversion" if you haven't already, then:

    svn co svn://svn.ozzmosis.com/xmsgapi
    cd xmsgapi/unix/gnu-c/
    make
    cd ../../..

    cd wimm
    make -f makefile.unix
    cd ..

    svn co svn://svn.ozzmosis.com/netmgr
