    Hi All...

*Canada Secretly Tracked 33MN Phones since Covid Outbreak*

Canada?s Public Health Agency (PHAC) has admitted to covertly tracking 33 million devices during the pandemic to assess "the public?s responsiveness during lockdown measures" (National Post citing Blocklock?s Reporter).

A contract awarded to Telus' Data For Good program expired in October, but for months it had helped garner "de-identified and aggregated" analysis. However, a PHAC spox has confirmed plans to continue tracking the population for up to FIVE YEARS.

Pandemic Surveillance author David Lyon believes "the Canadian public will find out about many other such unauthorized surveillance initiatives before the pandemic is over - and afterwards."

    Ciao!

Not gonna happen.. 'cuz they justify it the action like this:

"Due to the urgency of the pandemic, (PHAC) collected and used
mobility data, such as cell-tower location data, throughout the
COVID-19 response," a spokesperson told National Post.

"In March, the Agency awarded a contract to the Telus Data For
Good program to provide "de-identified and aggregated data" of
movement trends in Canada. The contract expired in October, and
PHAC no longer has access to the location data, the
    spokesperson said."

In Finland they have been using the movement data of Telia GSM network from the beginning of this covid shit, but they did not do it secretly. :)

The same anonymous data has been used before for another purposes.

That shouldn't matter if it's illegal!

That's pretty scary being spied on and not being notified about it. To me, that's considered an invasion of privacy rights.

I suppose there are exceptions if they are just scraping the
meta data - and no specific "personal" data? Meanwhile, there
has been no further hoopla over this incident. PHAC carries
    on. Spy business as usual.
