    Hi Roger,

Hej, (I forgot the Swedish word for morning, but I'll take a

    I think it's m¢rgon, but am unsure.

    Close but not a spike.
It's really very simple, Good morning, in swedish is God morgon.

All you have to do for that is change your upgrade settings; i.e., download, but do not install without your okay. I do that here.

Yes I know, but I haven't found that setting, even though I have
    tried.

It seems to me that I may have found that setting sometime, because I
have an icon on the screen, that says 'Windows10 Upgrade Assistant'.
Clicking on that gives a very meagry description of the upgrade, and
a slider that presently is set near the top. That's OK.

What version of Windows are you using on your OS/2 machine? (-:

See above, but it's not on an OS/2 machine. So far those machines run
    only OS/2.

That takes me back. Too bad they couldn't produce a more affordable
Amiga. That was a heck of a machine, but no one was writing programs
    for it.

Since I wasn't interested in 'game machine', I never paid attention to
the price of it, nor compared it to the price of an IBM compatible.

But it can't have been very expensive, because my GS was only schoolboy
when he got it, unless he was sponsored by somebody.

The reason why nobody wrote programs for it, was that it was
considered to be only a game machine, as were the earlier
    Commodores.

No matter what it was referred as, any computer with contiguous
memory would have been a success, at least with me, but I'm only one

friend bring his Amiga in for a demo to the rest of those who showed
up and I can tell you I was impressd from the outset.

I never tried the Amiga, but reading the manual impresses me still.

There were in fact a few (a couple ?) office programs written for
it, but the Amiga never took off.

I did manage to convert an Amiga BASIC program so it would run on an
    IBM compatible.

I started programming in assembler, when I found that Basic wasn't good
enough to manage large and fast programs, on my Sinclair ZX-81.

Then I bought a CP/M machine, and converted earlier made Basic programs
to Turbo Pascal. After switching to an IBM compatible, I did also try
Turbo C, Modula and CA Realizer.

If it had, even OS/2 would have been superfluos. It was that
    capable.

Maybe so, but we'll never know.

    Have a nice day,

Ha en bra dag, in swedish,

    Holger

Since I wasn't interested in 'game machine', I never paid attention

Ah, but it was more than that. The approximate $3,500 price tag for the machine that was demon'd to the club put off a lot of prospective buyers -- me included. The local Apple dudes were stuck-up snobs and didn't demo their Macintoshes until after I resigned as president of the club. On the other hand, the Commodore and TI people were great. The club ceased to exist not long after I left.

But it can't have been very expensive, because my GS was only
schoolboy when he got it, unless he was sponsored by somebody.

See above. There may have been a discount for those students in school, but I didn't think of that at that time.

The reason why nobody wrote programs for it, was that it was

I must be one of the rare ones who recognized its potential.

Then I bought a CP/M machine, and converted earlier made Basic
programs to Turbo Pascal. After switching to an IBM compatible, I

When I read 'pane' I interpret it to window. What I got after clicking
Settings >, was a splash covering most of the screen.

I tried to find "system", "about" and "version" without results.
Next day I clicked the icon named 'system' on the splash screen, and
there I found 'about' at the end of the list.

It showed the version to be: 1607, ie. the update. I checked again the
contents of the Windows Upgrade Assistant, and found a couple of text
files dated oct.11 2016, apparently telling the date of the upgrade.

That happens to be the date that killed my access to Facebook oct.12th.
I haven't got it working since then.

I believe the one before that was 1533, but I could be wrong. It
    was 15-something, however. (-:

Yes it was apparently 1511. I started up the laptop, and before doing
anything else, I checked the 'about', and it showed 1511. You may have
done an upgrade after that, to have it show 1533.

I then started up the WiFi, and was shown that Windows had an upgrade.
It didn't ask me if it should apply it, but started downloading that immeadetely, and applied it at once.

After that, when clicking Start > and Settings >, I do now get what I
would call a 'window' (pane) on the left, that now makes me more
confused, than the previous 'splash screen', with the various icons.

OTOH, Facebook seems to work on that machine, despite the fact that I
have never used, nor logged in to FB before with it. But of course, the
user is the same, as well as the email address.

    Have a nice day,

IIRC the machine the GS had, was the Amiga 500. I may be wrong

I believe that's the one we had demo'd. The RAM could be upgraded

I didn't have the proper manual to read about all it's capabilities, but

In a message on Sunday 11-04-16 Ed Vance said to Holger Granholm:

    GE Ed,

That happens to be the date that killed my access to Facebook
oct.12th. I haven't got it working since then.

I believe the one before that was 1533, but I could be wrong. It
    was 15-something, however. (-:

I clicked on a Link in this article by Woody Leonhard:

As I was reading the article in that Link I thought of You
and Roger talking about Windows 10 when I saw in Step 1
there was a Link to learn what version of Windows 10
is being used on a computer.

I know how to check the version of Windows 10.

Iirc the article said Cortana was to be used to learn what version of
WinTen was being used on a pc.
When I read the article I thought it looked like a quick way to get that
    info.
But I haven't any plans to start using WinTen so I really don't know
    anything about it by experience.

I read messages from BBS Users (and others) to learn about what they like
or don't like about the OS they use.

I was using Win95/98 until 2006, then I started using XP after reading
BBS messages from Users giving it a good report.
Lately all I read about XP is that it isn't a good OS to use anymore.

Regarding QRZ: I was in there yesterday and found that I couldn't do anything without Java, and the suggestions were to enable Java in
    FireFox, Chrome or Safari.

I see Mark sent a message about Javascript/JAVA to You.
Before I Log On QRZ now, I learned that I HAVE TO enable s3.Amazonaws.com
in NoScript or I will get that error message from QRZ too.

However, I'm using Opera as my browser. If that had been on the list,
I may have catched the suggestion to enable Java, but since I'm opposed
to use Java, I'm glad that it wasn't on the list.

I have Opera's browser too to use if Firefox quits working or it can't
get a web page to open.

    So consequently I'll stay out.

I just tried Opera to log on QRZ, and it worked for me.
    Opera didn't gripe a bit.
I looked for OH0NC and got the page asking if I wanted to add it to their database, I didn't.

I looked at my page twice, when I was Logged In and after I Logged Out.

I found out the second time all it showed was the message I had saying
what my old Call Signs were, when I clicked the Second Tab, it said I had
to be Logged On to read what was there.

The Second Tab is where I see the HamGrid option, that is just below the Map.

The HamGrid has options to show the QTH of other Hams in the area that is
being displayed in the HamGrid window and what Grid their QTH is in.

I guess You will have to Subscribe to put OH0NC in the QRZ Database.

java or javascript? they are not the same thing and are not related
    other than by name...

However, I'm using Opera as my browser. If that had been on the list,

    It was JavaScript.

even so you can easily look it up...

    https://techhelpkb.com/enable-and-disable-java-in-opera/

or if you meant javascript instead...

    https://pchelp.ricmedia.com/enable-disable-javascript-opera/

I checked today, and found in the Opera tools, the settings for both
    Java and Javascript.

I enabled both and connected to QRZ. It still complained that Javascript
wasn't enabled. I closed down Opera, restarted it and tried again.

Same message: Your Javascript isn't enabled ....

Thanks for the lesson, anyway. I'll try the above URL's next time.

    Have a good day,

Not at all necessary. The fastest way is to click on Settings>, then the
System Icon> and on the bottom of the presented column, click on 'About'

    This I learned from Roger.

I don't use Cortana at all

I was using Win95/98 until 2006, then I started using XP after
reading BBS messages from Users giving it a good report.

I jumped from WFWG 3.11 to XP Pro, without passing any versions between.

Lately all I read about XP is that it isn't a good OS to use

XP is still usable, and I still have it on an old Lenovo laptop.

Next time you can add my callsign there, since I read that a QRZ-user
could do that. After that, if I ever try to access QRZ again, I may
update the information, which you cannot do.

I guess You will have to Subscribe to put OH0NC in the QRZ Database.

I have subscribed already, so have I access to the database when/if it
accepts the Javascript that Opera offers.

I have forgotten to mention to you, that when looking at the map of time
zones, in and old english "Radio Reference Handbook", published 1946,
I stumbled across an "English-German Radio Vocabulary" in it.

The reason I didn't remember it, was that I got a good dose of german at school, and that I have learned the german radio terms in the education
to radio- and TV-tecnician, and also from the service manuals.

OK, I'll have to see if "search" can find such a setting.

I'm also finding that some programs are very selective to Opera.
Yesterday I let the Adobe Reader upgrade. After having done that, it
left a message that it could'nt apply it to Opera, but did it on Edge.

I have never, ever used that browser, it was just included in Windows.
I chose Opera because I was familiar with it from OS/2, and also because
it maybe isn't as prone to be attacked as the usual browsers like Edge
    and FireFox may be.

I may have to let FireFox loose. I do have it installed, and on the
laptop Gnome was included when I received it.

Oh well, I have much to learn about Windows 10 since XP :-(

they do not... it is a browser addon that you have to specifically install... noscript and adblockpro are the only two browsers addons i use and recommend but they do require some learning for one to get all their sites working properly without ads...
