Please forgive me for the intrusion on this but I know there's a lot
of amateur radio operators in this echo. I have taken over the
feeding and care of the HAM echo and would like you all to join in!

AFAIK, Mark Lewis is, and has long been, hosting the HAM echo in
Fidonet! I receive messages there every day.

He's been posting automated messages there but the echo itself had
dropped off the elist. I've since re-elisted the program and am now
in charge of its feedings and cleanings. :D
On a related note, I now have a solid S9 60hz hum on my inbound
signal. A new mystery for me to figure out.

OK, I can only hope that you don't stop Mark's automated messages,
because they are really valuable to all VHF-ers that want to QSO via Aurora reflections, and those that want to see the Aurora Borealis.
If the hum disappears when you disconnect the antenna, it's coming in
that way, and should vary in strength depending on the frequency band.

Nope, no reason to do that. I understand the importance of those
reports because I read them myself.
I do have a "space weather" gadget that I have on my ham radio blog
at kd5col.us that reports the current conditions and HF/VHF band openings/propogation.
I know it's coming in through the antenna. I wasn't able to do it
this weekend but definitely am going on a QRM hunt soon. ;)
