• About cloning

From Holger Granholm@2:20/228 to Tom Walker on Tue Feb 23 15:59:00 2016
    Hi Tom,

I know that you have tested different cloning programs, so I want to ask
you where you have finally landed.

I have installed the Easeus todo-Backup, and note that it can clone
disks. I do however recall that somebody (maybe you), has written about
a cloning program that can not restore a clone, unless registered.

Also I did install the Easeus Partition Manager, and made new partitions
in the free part of the HD. That worked OK.

I did also install the Paragon Partition Master but deleted that one,
when I found that the Easeus program did what I wanted to do.

I'm slowly getting used to the Win10 GUI, so at the moment I'm undecided
if I really should get/install the Classic Shell, hi.

I did also find that the e-mail program PMMail that I have used in OS/2,
is now available also for Windows, but I find the cost of registering it
is bit steep, at USD 40.-, but I'll hag a bit with the authors to see if
I, as a satisfied user under OS/2, can get the price down.

Otherwise, I may step over to Thunderbird, that I know is free.
Regarding the browser, I'm now configuring and testing Opera v35.

I'm a little bit disappointed so far that I haven't found the mail
client, that has been said, was included in previous versions.
    Maybe I will find it.

    Hi Tom,

I know that you have tested different cloning programs, so I want to ask HG>you where you have finally landed.

I have installed the Easeus todo-Backup, and note that it can clone HG>disks. I do however recall that somebody (maybe you), has written about
a cloning program that can not restore a clone, unless registered.

I did have soem problems with Easus todo Backup Free. the biggest one is
that to make a CD for use with my ohter computers it needs the pay
    edition.

I also had some minor problems with Macrimum so deleted it

There are several other free Image/cloning programs but since I have had
very good sucess with True Image by Acronis I have settled on that one

Also I did install the Easeus Partition Manager, and made new partitions HG>in the free part of the HD. That worked OK.

Great Program and the one i use

I did also install the Paragon Partition Master but deleted that one, HG>when I found that the Easeus program did what I wanted to do.

Many years ago I started with Partition Magic but dropped it when Norton
    bought it

I'm slowly getting used to the Win10 GUI, so at the moment I'm undecided HG>if I really should get/install the Classic Shell, hi.

After so many uears of the Win 95, 98, Me and XP Start I jsut could not
get used to the Win 7 and later one so went using Classic Start

I did also find that the e-mail program PMMail that I have used in OS/2, HG>is now available also for Windows, but I find the cost of registering it HG>is bit steep, at USD 40.-, but I'll hag a bit with the authors to see if HG>I, as a satisfied user under OS/2, can get the price down.

I am quite satisfied with Thunderbird, but then there is this "Old Dogs
and New Tricks" thing in my case

In a message on Saturday 02-26-16 Tom Walker said to Holger Granholm:

    GM Tom,

Thank you very much for your reply.
I knew that you have used various tool programs for many years, and that
you prefer free programs as they work for you. So you have the experience
to advice us "new" (since XP) Windows users.

I have installed the Easeus todo-Backup, and note that it can clone HG>disks.

I did have soem problems with Easus todo Backup Free. the biggest
one is that to make a CD for use with my ohter computers it needs
    the pay edition.

OK, thanks for the hint. That one I recalled, but wasn't sure where it
came from, and what program it was.

There are several other free Image/cloning programs but since I have
had very good sucess with True Image by Acronis I have settled on
    that one

Yes, I have also used it in my XP laptop, but it didn't accept Win10 as
    a working environment.

Also I did install the Easeus Partition Manager, and made new partitions HG>in the free part of the HD. That worked OK.

Great Program and the one i use

    Thanks for your experience.

I did also install the Paragon Partition Master but deleted that one,

Many years ago I started with Partition Magic but dropped it when
    Norton bought it

Many moons ago I too used Partition Magic, but I don't think the Paragon Partition Master is the same program.

There also is an extremely useful tool program that really covers all
bases, discussed above, and more. It's named DFsee and is available for
all known operating and HD filing systems, but I don't know if it in my
case would cover both OS/2 and Windows with the same registration fee.

After so many uears of the Win 95, 98, Me and XP Start I jsut could
not get used to the Win 7 and later one so went using Classic Start

That was also my first reaction to it in the beginning.

The Win10 GUI was, if not frightening, at least very odd as compared to
the OS/2 and XP GUI's, but Im slowly getting the hang of it.

You know, "teaching an old dog, new tricks", hi.

I did also find that the e-mail program PMMail that I have used in OS/2, HG>is now available also for Windows, .....

I had to abandon that, because it refused to connect to my Mobile
Internet provider, so I had to succumb to Thunderbird that connected OK,
to the tune of 1784 mails that had gathered there, since they ceased the
    POTS support.

I am quite satisfied with Thunderbird, but then there is this "Old
Dogs and New Tricks" thing in my case

Yes, I'm now in the same situation. I have probably lost two of the
latest messages, because I thought that "Archive" did mean to save the
messages for later reading/replying. Now I can't find them along with
some other messages that I thought I'd save, while deleting most of
    those amassed 1784 messages.

I have found the messages in the "Junk" folder, but so far I have not
been able to get any text from them.

Neither do I find any manual for Thunderbird, among the files downloaded
at the installation. I hate to have to hang on the net to read manuals.

TNX VY much for letting us lesser beings become a part of your long-term experience.
