    Good day Paul,

Ah, I would have thought the same thing; Winton's location comes immediately to mind as being in Queensland. I checked with uncle
Google and it turned up another in Victoria, with the proper
    'credentials'. :)

Yes, after listening several times to the start of the program, the
commentator says a name beginning with 'A', being 220 miles NNE from
Melbourne. Even though I'm not convinced that the name I heard, is
correct, the only name within that distance from Melbourne is Albury.

It's on the border between Victoria and NSW. On the map it's impossible
to state whether it's in Victoria or NSW.

The Benalla Auto Club (Victoria) had the Winton Motor Raceway built
in the early 60s. Of interest to you I'm sure, Dick Johnson once
described the circuit being 'like running a marathon around your clothes-line'.

    Thanks for the information.

Thank you. It's raining. First day of winter and we're having a
cold 'snap', 24C max with a "shower or two".

Congratulations for the rain! We almost never hear/read of rain in
Australia. Mostly we get to know about draught and bushfires.

We are in a bad need of rain here. Since may 15th, when we got 40mm rain,
we have got nothing. Only the nightly dew is still keeping the nature
    green.

Several rain areas, that were supposed to give us rain, have circum-
vented the islands. The same goes for the swedish island Gotland, where
they have now had to restrict the use of water.

This week, the afternoon temperatures here, have been 20-25øC, and in
the early mornings, above 15C. For the weekend they have forecast a dip
of nearly 10C, but thereafter again up to the 20's.

    Have a nice evening,

    Holger

It's more likely to be Benalla still, mate. I checked again with uncle Google:
the event is called the 'Austin 7 Club Historic Winton', and this year was the 40th anniversary meet.

Well, we've copped it in buckets' full since then. Maybe the news isn't as widely reported over there. Commencing Saturday afternoon, there was a 'perfect' alignment of 3 or 4 low pressure systems from here in the Wide Bay region, all the way down the eastern seaboard of OZ to Hobart in Tasmania. It was compared initially to being similar to a Cat 1 cyclone (lowest on the scale, IAC), stretching the 1990-odd kms to Hobart.

The effect of the alignment of lows had a rolling consequence down the coast, over an approximate 48 hour period. In a lot of instances at coastal communities, the enormous associated rainfall combined with increased 'king' tides producing flooding events. Some towns along the coastal strip received record rainfall dumps also. One report I recall hearing from a country town in
NSW (north of Sydney?) receiving 461mm _overnight_ (yes, near half a metre).

Many city & town businesses, and beach homes have sustained incredible erosion and/or flood damage. One house that has featured prominently on TV reports had
completely lost their backyard, which had once fronted directly on to the beach, 30m distant. Their in-ground swimming pool (10m^2x1.5m?) is now a big block of solitary concrete sitting by itself, at an angle, on the beach. With further inclement weather and tides tonight, they may lose the rest of the house.

Several rain areas, that were supposed to give us rain, have circum- vented the islands. The same goes for the swedish island Gotland,
where they have now had to restrict the use of water.

We have plenty to share. Come get some. ;)

Except for the weekend, which brought freezing wind(chill) and humidity, we've now settled into roughly 12/13-22/24C days again. Cold enough of a night for one blanket still. We're both coming up to an equinox, Holger. Maybe we'll share similar temperature ranges as well as length of days, for a short space of time. :)

    Have a nice evening,

Thank you. I'm having trouble slowing down tonight as I've got a wonky mouse on my netbook (which prevented an earlier reply BTW). Just pulled a spare from
my upstairs stash to try... Good night.

    Cheers,

Thanks for letting me, ad others, know that all is well.

uncle Google: the event is called the 'Austin 7 Club Historic

We have a "Highlights" from Winton coming up on friday, and I'll try to
catch that name again, if I'm at home. Just for because of curiosity ;o)

Thank you. It's raining. First day of winter and we're having a
cold 'snap', 24C max with a "shower or two".

Last night we too got some rain. Some drops were still coming at 08:00,
and I see the puddles on the parking area.

Well, we've copped it in buckets' full since then. Maybe the news
isn't as widely reported over there.

Maybe because we do get more rainy days, than we BELIEVE there are in OZ

there was a 'perfect' alignment of 3 or 4 low pressure systems from
here in the Wide Bay region, all the way down the eastern seaboard
of OZ to Hobart in Tasmania.

At the moment we have a quite deep low pressure over north scandinavia,
that is creating very strong winds down to the middle of Swe/Fin, and
the wind has increased here too, so that I had to loch down the balcony
door, and shut the window in this room too.

The effect of the alignment of lows had a rolling consequence down
the coast, over an approximate 48 hour period. In a lot of
instances at coastal communities, the enormous associated rainfall
combined with increased 'king' tides producing flooding events.

Yeah, that's what we were told, and shown pictures of, in the news.

Some towns along the coastal strip received record rainfall dumps
also. One report I recall hearing from a country town in NSW (north
of Sydney?) receiving 461mm _overnight_ (yes, near half a metre).

Up to that amount was also predicted for northern Finland today/tomorrow

Many city & town businesses, and beach homes have sustained
incredible erosion and/or flood damage. One house that has featured prominently on TV reports had completely lost their backyard, which
had once fronted directly on to the beach, 30m distant.

Yes, that was also shown on the news, as well as other houses hanging
    partly in the air.

That was also the reason, why I was a bit worried for your well being,
knowing (or thinking), that the area where you live, may be quite near
    to sea level.

We have plenty to share. Come get some. ;)

Thanks, I'll remember your offer, <BG>.

humidity, we've now settled into roughly 12/13-22/24C days again.

That's the temperatures we too had last week until yesterday, but now at
09:30 the temperature was 8øC and rain is again falling.

to an equinox, Holger. Maybe we'll share similar temperature ranges
as well as length of days, for a short space of time. :)

Yes probably, when the REAL summer starts. What we have had so far, has
been some sort of appetizing pre-summer.

Thank you. I'm having trouble slowing down tonight as I've got a
wonky mouse on my netbook (which prevented an earlier reply BTW).
Just pulled a spare from my upstairs stash to try... Good night.

My GS could'nt quite understand my joy over the joy-stick planted in the
middle of the keyboard, on the Dell laptop I received for XMAS from him.

That machine does also have a touch pad, but I like the joy-stick more,
because I've become used to that on the Lenovo laptops I have.

    Have a nice evening,

    Holger

This end of town has been through many floods over the years. The house is an early settler's cottage, with a lot of upgrades. It's over 100-something years
old, and is on concrete stumps. I'm about 1.8m and in most places under the house I have to duck my head, lest I prang the woodwork... which I have done a lot of times, in times' past, as I'm sure I've got a flatter forehead.

Well, it's just not letting go here. The temp was 19.1C at 9h30 this morning. We're expecting a max of 25+C later. We had a max of 30C just the other day. Gorgeous weather besides. It's actually a pleasure to enjoy a few moments in the sunshine (which is still dangerous for us in winter).

    Cheers,
    Paul.

I skipped that, because it was too nice weather to stay indoors at 13:30.

They are nice, those old buildings, as long as you have the energy to
keep them 'alive'. To have them elevated above the ground is a wise
thing, both to avoid water damages, as well as keeping them cooler,
because the ground below is mostly in the shadow.

I'm about 1.8m and in most places under the house I have to duck my
    head, ....

I was too 1.82m in my golden years, but I have shrunk a bit now with age.
I didn't know about it until a thorough examination, at the Health care
    center, some years ago.

Yes probably, when the REAL summer starts. What we have had so far,
has been some sort of appetizing pre-summer.

The forecast tells us that afternoon temperatures above 20øC will come
back from monday. Maybe that will not be the case here on the islands,
because the sea water is still cold, after the winter let go. Any wind
blowing here comes across the sea, so I use to say <northern winds are
allways cold, irrespective the direction they come from>.

Well, it's just not letting go here. The temp was 19.1C at 9h30
    this morning.

It was 11.5øC at 09:00 today. Expectation is 13C in the afternoon, maybe
a little higher if there's very little wind.

30C just the other day. Gorgeous weather besides. It's actually a
pleasure to enjoy a few moments in the sunshine (which is still
    dangerous for us in winter).

It's dangerous any time of the year. A couple of weeks ago I had to go
some errands in the vicinity, and decided to leave the cap at home. I
shouldn't have done that, I got immeadetely a couple of burns on my
    skull.

    Have a nice day,

    Holger
