Sorry, don't work on laptops or the like, but you might try a linux computer and use dd to copy the old drive to the one I sent. Just a thought ... luck
p.s. you could also boot a live linux CD and use it that way.

Keep the faith :^)
An afterthought (g) ... you could always ship me both drives and I
will attempt to make the 12GB look like your old one, if it can be
done. Have lots of tools for reading/writing to various hard drives
:) Used to play a lot with the old IDE drives as well {chuckle}
I am a Very Trying Person, just ask my wife. <GRIN>

I have to, I'm going to see Jesus. see John 5:24

But if Ed's machine doesn't boot, what then?
Normally a machine starts with a message about how to access to the
BIOS It should do it even though the BIOS battery is dead.
You need to be at least 10% smarter than the equipment.

Yes, Mine does that.
It says the BIOS Battery is dead and offers two F Key choices.
1. Go to the BIOS
2. Continue with starting the computer
Also because of the dead BIOS battery I've learned any changes I
make to the BIOS is lost after I've selected YES and presed the
Enter Key.
I tried to open the Acer 370P to see if I can replace the BIOS
battery but I couldn't figure out how to get the case open.
The default setting for CD-ROM BOOTABLE in the BIOS is [Disabled] .
I sure wouldn't want the internal HDD to be changed over to W95,
even though I've made a recent BackUp I could use to restore the OS.
I don't know enough about Ubuntu to run the CD in a Ubuntu VM to
risk it.
