Howdy! ALL!,

Here in the United States we observe Thanksgiving Day in November,
so I thought I would say "THANK YOU!" to the people who Run, Read and
Enter messages on BBS's.

In the 30+ Years I've used BBS's ran on Commodore, Apple ][,
PC Compatiable and Other computers, I have learned a lot from Reading,
Making Comments, Asking Questions and also seeing what Others write about
in BBS Echo Conferences about various topics they know about or want to
know (more) about.

Mostly about how to use my computer(s) to make my life easier.

THANKS for the many HINTS and SHORTCUTS about how to use my computer(s)
to make life easier here.

And THANKS! for all of the GOOD non-computer IDEAS I've found in other
Echo's that I read, such as: Amateur Radio, Bible, Doctor Who, Space, etc.

I enjoy being able to learn and share what I read in BBS Messages.

Pardon the late reply on this, Ed.

You're in the treasured environment of FidoNet, where you're not spied on by countless ad and marketing systems that try to know everything about you -without your permission. Where you're not subject to inadvertently picking up some destructive virus (at least on all POTS systems and virtually all telnet systems. Where you can read and post to your heart's content without (usually)
being harassed by countless twits and assorted morons. No fancy - glitzy multimedia graphics - just plain old text. Sure, you can't post a picture of a
problem you're having, but it's IMO, a small trade-off.

Hopefully we can keep this antiquated but effective system of BBSes up and running for a LONG time to come!

I started BBSing in 1987 using Compaq DOS 3.3, It allowed use of a 30 meg
HD as one drive where as MS-DOS only alowed 20 meg drives

I'm also a relic from the past but I started BBS'ing later than you.
My first BBS ran on an Epson 386AX with the 'ExecHost' software as the 'SunnyIsland BBS' in 1988.

That oftware was a bit limited but after having tested the PCBoard BBS
beta software in 1992 I switched to it and started up HAM-BOX BBS.

When PCBoard upgraded 1995 to v15 it came with full support for Fidonet,
and in nov. 1995 I joined Fido.

When PCB was upgraded to v15.2 it also included full OS/2 support and I
changed the operating system from PCDOS/DesqView to OS/2. What a relief!

In 1992 I did also install a BBS running PCBoard on a Compaq but I
didn't like that the Compaq relied only on add-ons specifically for that computer/operating system, so I preferred the M$ and IBM PCDOS solution,

I'm also a relic from the past but I started BBS'ing later than you.

Yes, I posted it long ago in several echos that I frequently post messages
in.

I was wondering if Your BBS has the Option to show the Route that messages
go through?

A BBS I used many years ago had a Routing Line added to every message that
the BBS received, showing what BBS's were involved in Transferring messages
on that Network (GT POWER).

Some time ago, I remember You saying some messages take a long time getting
to Your BBS.

You can't read them until You get them.

Usually duplicates are very effectively filtered out by the PCBoard BBS.

After having installed PCBoard in the Technical High School here and
noting what a complete package it is, I decided to use PCBoard too.

I didn't need any auxiliary programs to run a BBS in Fidonet or UUCP. Everything was there.

Yeah, it's 1-1-2 in Europe because the rotary dial was reversed on
european telephones.

Yes it does but I must be aware of the need to show the PATH so that I
can go to look at it.

Your message was too old however B4 I thought of that possibility.
I don't keep a massive amount of old messages in store.

Before and during XMAS I (or rather my HOST) had a cut off of Fidonet echoes/netmail so I couldn't send out the XMAS wishes I had written so
I hope this gets out to you.

Thank you very much. I had a very nice XMAS eve and day.
Johan and Melissa came over from Stockholm and both my daughters also
came for XMAS dinner and receiving/giving gifts in the evening.

You see, we don't wait for Santa to come in the morning of Christmas day

My son has always preferred to celebrate Christmas within his family and
I don't blame him. After all, he is living 30 km from the city and after
all, I wouldn't have space for four additional guests around the table.

Usually all of us have been invited to his place on the XMAS day, but
not this year which made Johan a bit disappointed.

Yes. For about six months we have had a persistent pattern of hot air being funneled from the northwest coast near Papua, down across the center of our continent (and re-blasted by the furnace of desert air), to then end up in various places on the southeast parts.

Same here, though not by custom. I have a present from my favourite sister-in-law that she gave me last weekend. I knew what it was without ripping into the wrapping. :)

That's how this house used to be. It gives me a ghostly feeling moving around what was once a thriving and raucous home, with just me & my two house-bird animal friends now.

OTOH, I had a wonderful Xmas. My youngest daughter (Michelle, who works as a nurse in an outback town) came to stay with me, and on Xmas days we both went to my eldest daughter's home (Katherine), to enjoy a festive lunch with Kathy's
partner and his two brothers. It was great, catching up with everyone in one place.
