It would be nice if CP850 was also supported.

    Isn't that just Latin-1 ?

    - LATIN-1 in Fido is ISO 8859-1
    - CP850 is Code page 850 (also known as DOS Latin 1)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_page_850

See FTS-5003, 4. Known character set identifiers http://ftsc.org/docs/fts-5003.001

In Spanish echos you can find messages in CP437, LATIN-1, CP850 and UTF-8.
    I think that Brazilian/Portuguese also use CP850 a lot.

GoldEd+ in Windows uses CP850 by default (though you can configure it to convert to/from other encodings)

This message is in CP850. Here's an example:
    ¨Qu‚ cige¤a vol˘ aŁn m s ahĄ?

As it turned out, I was back in the days thinking that CP850 equals ISO 8859-1 which causes existing WP-versions to handle CP850 as Latin-1 internally. Seems to work now correctly(starting with Version 394).
