• Adding an archiver

From Martin Foster@2:280/464.27 to Tim Schattkowsky on Sun Jan 23 08:53:53 2022
    Hello Tim!

I'm wanting to add InfoZip's ZIP(v2.32) to the list of archivers but I haven't a clue what values to insert in the "Signatur" tab. Any ideas please?

    Regards,
    Martin

You mean you want to add the capability of using zip to compress outgoing messages?

    Yes, that's correct.

I thought I'd like to test it, seeing as the option is now there in the config.

    Martin

Has always been there. You just need to add the proper command line to the existing ZIP configuration under packers. Signature is already there and only relevant for decompression anyway.

I can't say that I'd ever noticed it before.

Ah, methinks I may have worded my post badly .....

What I should have said was that I thought I'd like to test the "Compress Mail Packets" feature.

You just need to add the proper command line to the existing ZIP configuration under packers.

I see one for PKZip but not for InfoZip so I've added one .....

    Packer name: InfoZip
    Kommandozeile Packen: zip -j
    Kommandozeile Entpacken: Integrated UnZip

I then enabled "Compress Mail Packets" for one of my uplinks, wrote a message and then "Sent" it. Instead of allowing WinPoint to automatically export the message, I manually exported it so that I could check that the compressed mail packet had been packed correctly. I expected to see a mail bundle in the outbound with an extension of "we0" but I didn't, I saw a .pkt file, which is an uncompressed mail packet. Perhaps I did something wrong?

Signature is already there and only relevant for decompression anyway.

    OK, noted.

    Regards,
    Martin

Well that was my understanding. WP95 has supported compressing the pkts to bundles and current I just checked: WP today still has all the configuration items for it as well as all basic code for doing it ... but it seems that code is currently not called during export. Will check why ...
