• Struggling with message area maintenance

From Martin Foster@2:280/464.27 to Tim Schattkowsky on Mon Jan 24 11:47:10 2022
    Hello Tim!

I have just one area(Reports) configured for automatic maintenance but as yet, I haven't managed to get anything to work.

I have messages in there which go back 81 days and I have the area configured to delete messages which are older than 30 days. Nothing ever gets deleted ???

    Regards,
    Martin

Checked in automation options that automatic maintennance is enabled? Is IMHO disabled by default to prevent people from accidentally killing their messages.

    Tim

    Yes and it's enabled.

After playing about some more, I still can't get it to do anything <shrug>.

Ah well, there's always the <Delete> key :-))

Did you also check the maintenance filter? By default, only read messages that are not adressed to you or written by you (both blue in the list) can be deleted according to the filter.

All messages in the "Reports" folder are addressed to "Sysop", so I guess that's me.

Will try myself over the weekend.

Probably not flaged accordingly, because theyre not blue. Still, should only be a matter of the filter configuration.

Just tested here. Works when manually apllied (from area context menu), but does not reload the area, which may result in error messages if messages have been deleted (happened here). Does however not work here automatically neither at start nor end. Will check that.

Turned out I long time ago disabled the automatic maintennance internally to avoid a bug which has been fixed already ... but I simply forgot to reenable it ...
