- Tried to click on the second one but the mouse pointer wouldn't move(locked up)
- Within a few seconds, my PC rebooted itself
- Fired up WinPoint and clicked on the "Reports" folder in the message tree and I got an "Access Violation" popup - see https://stargate.org.uk/winpoint/screenshots/access_violation.jpg
- Clicked the "Ok" button to dismiss the popup and noticed that the "Reports" message list was completely empty
Every time I click the "Reports" folder, I get the "Access Violation" popup and an empty message list but having looked in the messagebase directory, the "Reports" message base files are actually there.
How do I recover the situation?

Okay, that sounds like a hardware/driver issue. Probably some data got damaged at that point.

Make a backup of the files related to the report area. Use that old message base doctor (probably still does the job) to repair the files. If that does not work, just delete the files (and loose all those reports).

Yep, I agree because I do tend to get occasional/
mysterious reboots these days.

Years ago when my beloved T60 laptop would reboot, it was
usually do to an overheating issue. Fresh heatsink grease
between the CPU and heatsink, as well as a new system fan,
solved the problem.

another Windows.

Your terminology is ambiguous as there is no "poll with ipv6" button in the software. So I am still not sure what you mean.
Please tell me what host name do you use for polling and what do you
think what happens and what should happen.
For now, I suspect you use a host name that resolves to IPv6 (or even is an actual IPv6 address), but the IPv6 connection does not work (for whatever reason that is probably outside WP) and you now expect WP to automatically fallback to IPv4 for the same host !?
Don't know how to explain but what are possble other reasons outsite the program WP hangs?

try
call ipv4

Why do you never reply to my questions and instead try to teach me programming? That is slightly insulting. I have written millions of lines of code in my life and need no help with control structures or whatever.

It was no intend to be insulting someone/body. Ik only want to try to make a bugfree program with suggestions.

Rinaldo's point AKA is 2:280/5555.10 (see his mail's origin lines)
so he probably wants to connect to his BOSS AKA => 2:280/5555
this is Michiel van der Vlist ... who forces everywhere to use IPv6 Michiel's related nodelist line is:

I would give it a try with these 2 listed FQDNs

Oh. So is this whole IPv4/IPv6 discussion here about the idea that WP should try the other entry from the nodelist?

What WP should do is if a hostname resolves to multiple IP's (IPv6 or IPv4), try them all in the order the OS presents them, until one succeeds.

That was my understanding and as I said, its on the list but not with high priority.

Actually the boss was behaving badly. Winpoint tried to connect but the server did not answer. :D
